Bargoed High Street will be closed to traffic on weekends between November 12 and December 4, as work to revamp the area continues.
The improvements to High Street and Upper High Street are part of the second phase of the European Union-back improvement scheme for Bargoed town centre.
The council hopes the works will make the town more vibrant and attractive to shoppers through the introduction of wider pavements and new public spaces.
High Street will be closed to traffic from the Saturday 12 noon to Monday morning 6am.
The council has said the second phase is going well and will be completed in time for the town’s Christmas trading period.
Alun Griffiths Contractors is keen to remind shoppers that the street will remain open to pedestrians and that all traders will be open for business as usual.
Cllr Ron Davies, cabinet Member for regeneration said: “We are working closely with local traders and are very keen to encourage shoppers to visit Bargoed. The town boasts over 140 retail outlets with a complementary mix of both national chains and smaller independent traders providing a wide range of services.”
The £8m Bargoed Town Centre Regeneration project is being delivered thanks to funding from the EU’s Convergence European Regional Development Fund, and through the Welsh Government’s Targeted Match Funding and Heads of the Valleys Programme.
Following completion of this six-month programme, improvement works will extend to Hanbury Road and Hanbury Square.
