More booze-free zones for Caerphilly County Borough

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 19:57, Friday June 18th, 2010.

Eight new alcohol control zones are to be introduced across Caerphilly County Borough in a bid to stop street drinking and drunken antisocial behaviour.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s cabinet recently approved eight new zones in the form of Designated Public Place Orders (DPPOs).

Councillor Lyn Ackerman, cabinet member for the environment said: “I very much welcome the extension of these ‘alcohol control zones’, which assist greatly in reducing nuisance and antisocial drinking in public places.

“DPPOs also help us promote the fact that nuisance drinking in public places is socially unacceptable, and allows law abiding citizens to reclaim their neighbourhoods from anti-social drinkers.”

Inspector Alan Webber, of Gwent Police, said: “We welcome the new DPPO areas. They provide police officers with additional powers to prevent incidents arising from public drinking. We can reassure local residents that where appropriate, officers will utilise these powers fully in order to protect our communities.”

The DPPOs are being introduced in the following areas:

Over the past few weeks I have attended both Abercarn Welfare and The Distillery Park Abercarn.
Despite complaining to C.B.C.C. and the Community Police, of litter and vandalism, I will visit both sites tomorrow(28/10/2011) and will undoubtedly find that both sites will be littered with empty beer/larger and cider cans!
From my point of view, these sites are NOT ALCOHOL FREE ZONES!
