Islwyn MP Chris Evans has welcomed the selection of Gwyn Price as the Labour Party candidate for Islwyn at the Welsh Assembly elections next year.

Mr Price, who lives in Pontllanfraith and is a former deputy leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, was selected by local party members who turned out in force to vote for their new candidate at Newbridge Memo.

Speaking after his successful selection, Mr Price said: “I feel immensely proud and privileged to be given the opportunity to stand for AM of Islwyn.

“I believe people want a powerful and passionate champion for the constituency and that is exactly what I intend to be.”

Mr Evans added: “I have known Gwyn for some years. He is real fighter who will always put Islwyn first.

“He is an excellent choice – I look forward to working with him over the coming years.”
