Former servicemen open car wash in Caerphilly town

Two enterprising former servicemen are hoping revolutionise the car washing and valeting business with an innovative waterless system – and they’ve chosen Caerphilly town as their starting point.

Karim Cosslett, 31, and Dan Walsh, also 31, from Cardiff, have gone into business with Car Spa UK, opening their first site on Nantgarw Road.

The pair, who have been best friends since 11-years-old, say their unique system of washing cars without water can save thousands of litres of water, helping to conserve energy and protect the environment.

Former Royal Air Forceman Karim explained: “A water-less car washing system is not unique – but what is unique is the way that we do it.

“We have developed a matt system and rather than the car having to sit on a sewer or drain, the cleaning products that we use are collected in the matt. This means we can open a car wash anywhere.

“Every few days we empty the matt into a giant tank which is then taken away for disposal.”

The two entrepreneurs have teamed up with car product specialises Auto Glym and the waste collected from a cleaned car is fully biodegradable.

Interest in the system has been huge and after the Caerphilly site, which is employing three locals, the two men are planning to open another ten right across South Wales.

But why Caerphilly?

Dan, who served in the Welsh Guards, answered: “We are both fairly local from just over the mountain. We looked at sites all over South Wales and the West Country.

“Caerphilly appealed to us because of the location and we wanted to employ a local workforce. The site just jumped out of us.”

Karim added: “When we did our market research here, the people of Caerphilly were very receptive to green issues – we really feel like we’ve landed on our feet with this location.”
