The River of Light Parade is just one of many Christmas events

Christmas is fast approaching, so here’s our round-up of the best festive events happening in the county borough over the coming weeks.

Don’t forget to regularly visit our events section for the latest up-to-date what’s on guide in Caerphilly County Borough.

Friday November 25 sees Caerphilly town switch on its Christmas lights at 7pm.

Ystrad Mynach is holding its Festive Fayre on Saturday November 26 between 11am and 5pm. There are free arts and crafts activities as well as market stalls, singers and choirs to get you in the festive mood.

On December 3 and 4, Blackwood will host its Christmas Market with a variety of food and craft stalls to look for that unusual Christmas gift. There will be children’s funfair rides and stalls along the High Street as well as Father Christmas and his reindeer. December 3 is also when Blackwood switches on its Christmas lights.

The second weekend of December sees medieval fun in Caerphilly town with the annual Medieval Christmas Fayre being hosted on December 10 and 11.

Visitors to the town centre and Caerphilly Castle can browse the medieval market, filled with authentic traders, or sup ale in a medieval tavern. Watch out for street entertainers in the guise of pickpockets, beggars, scoundrels and thieves.

Food and craft stalls will line the high street and castle walls, with over 120 high quality traders.

Standard admission charges apply on entrance to the castle, although much of the entertainment around the town is free.

On December 17, Bargoed will host a traditional on-street Christmas Market with local craft, charity and seasonal food stalls. The event will include various street entertainers, children’s entertainment and a Santa’s Grotto.

Back due to public demand for is the outdoor ice rink. The ice rink will be in town from Thursday 15 to Sunday December 18.

This year there is two hours free parking in all pay and display car parks across the county borough between December 10 and December 24.

During each weekend in December don’t forget to pop into Caerphilly Leisure Centre to make a lantern ready to take part in the River Of Light Lantern Parade on December 22.

Blackwood is holding its Lantern Parade at Market Square on Thursday December 8 at 6.30pm.

There are a number of other parades and workshops taking place throughout the county borough this winter. Visit www.caerphilly.gov.uk/christmas for further details.
