Council warns of smoking in Blackwood bus station

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 09:00, Wednesday November 23rd, 2011.

Caerphilly County Borough Council is warning people not to smoke in Blackwood bus station after two people were fined.

Smoking is banned in enclosed public areas, which Blackwood bus station is classed as.

Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection said: “Anyone caught flouting the law by smoking in enclosed public spaces where they shouldn’t be, is liable for a fixed penalty notice of £50, with prosecution a very real possibility if the fine isn’t paid.

“The smoking legislation was introduced for a reason, and anyone who decides to disregard this legislation must face the consequences.”

The smoking ban came into force in Wales in April 2007 and the council issued a similar warning to passengers in March this year.
