Dozens of new jobs are to be created in Risca and Caerphilly after training company ACT won a new £19m contract with the Welsh Assembly Government.
The contract is part of the Welsh Assembly Government’s new skills programme, recently announced by Leighton Andrews,Welsh Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning.
ACT will recruit 50 trainers and assessors across its four centres in Cardiff, Bridgend, Caerphilly and Risca.
Andrew Cooksley, managing director of ACT, said: “This has been in our planning for years and the team here have put their hearts and souls into this bid. This is the outcome of their hard work.
“We are very conscious of the huge responsibility we have to deliver skills to such a large number of people and give them the opportunities to secure good quality jobs. What we do in our centres will make a big difference to the lives of individuals and help achieve the Assembly Government’s aim of a high-skilled, more competitive workforce in Wales.”
The bulk of ACT’s new work will focus on training jobless and low-skilled youngsters who will benefit from the new Traineeships programme. The company will aim to increase the number of apprentices it trains for occupations such as construction, auto-engineering, catering, office administration, hairdressing and animal care.
The firm works regularly with more than 400 employers, who provide either work experience placements or employment for its trainees.
