Campaign for new Llanbradach health centre moves forward

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:13, Tuesday December 6th, 2011.

A campaign for a new health centre in Llanbradach has taken a step forward after the health board confirmed it as a priority.

Residents in the village want the old All Saints’ church site in Llanbradach developed for the medical centre. Campaigners say the new health centre would be in an ideal location on the main road through the village, with bus stops and a chemist nearby.

Ward councillors Colin Mann and Rob Gough and council officials recently met with the Aneurin Bevan Health Board, church officials and the United Welsh housing to discuss the matter.

Cllr Colin Mann said: “It’s good news that we have made the health board’s priority list, otherwise, there would have been no hope of moving this project forward in the foreseeable future.

“But there are quite a few hurdles to jump before this scheme becomes a reality. The health board officials will be submitting an interim case to the Welsh Government early in the near year and we hope it wins approval so we can move forward again.”

If the medical centre is built it would house two GP practices catering for between 5,000 and 6,000 patients.

Last month a 500-signature petition was presented to Dr Andrew Goodall, chief executive of the Aneurin Bevan Local Health Board (ABLHB) and came two years after a similar petition was presented to health officials.
