Bargoed looks set to get a new bowls pavilion in the New Year after the previous one was destroyed in an arson attack.
Caerphilly County Borough Council has pledged to restore the fire damaged structure and the work is currently out to tender.
Cllr Lyn Ackerman, cabinet member for public services said: “We are glad to be able to reinstate this popular community facility after it was destroyed by an act of mindless vandalism. We have worked closely with the bowls club to ensure the new pavilion meets their needs and we now look forward to the building work commencing in January.”
The new pavilion will cost an estimated £133,000 and work should begin on site in January with a completion date of mid April.
This was the second arson attack at the site in the last ten years and the council is keen to tackle this type of vandalism.
Even war memorials are not immune – Tirphil War Memorial recently had coping stones stolen, which were replaced and then stolen yet again.
