Green Caerphilly firms urged to enter business awards

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 08:43, Thursday August 26th, 2010.

Environmentally-friendly companies based in Caerphilly County Borough are being urged to put themselves forward for a new category at this year’s Caerphilly Business Forum Awards.

Businesses that promote and run their own recycling schemes, take an active role in reducing energy consumption, or encourage staff to reduce their carbon footprint, are being sought to enter the new Environment Award.

The new category is being sponsored by Caerphilly Business Awards winner UES, a company that specialises in helping business to cut costs and reduce their own impact on the environment.

Based at the Tredomen Business Park in Ystrad Mynach, UES collected the Business of the Year with less than 25 Employees Award, at last year’s awards finale at Bryn Meadows Golf, Hotel and Spa in Maesycymmer, near Blackwood.

The new Environment Award is open to all businesses in the Caerphilly County Borough and will be awarded to the business that has demonstrated outstanding commitment to the reduction of its environmental impact and its energy use, particularly over the last 12 months.

It is one of seven categories to enter in the ninth Caerphilly Business Awards, with the overall winner collecting the prized Premier Award.

Kate Williams, marketing manager at UES, said: “The Environment Award is all about celebrating and recognizing the achievements of those local businesses that are actively reducing their carbon footprint, energy, materials and resources.

“It is also concerned with responsibility and fairness. We at UES are passionate about these issues, which are at the very heart of our own environmental philosophy, and as a Caerphilly company and a Caerphilly Business Forum award winner ourselves we believe it is vital for local companies to be recognised for the excellent work they do.

“We are delighted to be sponsoring this new award and honouring the best Caerphilly environmental initiative at these important industry awards.”

Organised by the Caerphilly Business Forum, the awards scheme recognizes, celebrates and rewards all that is best in business in the Caerphilly Borough, with this year’s awards culminating in a special presentation awards evening on Friday November 12.

For more details about the awards and how to enter visit www.cbforum.co.uk, call 01443 866215 or email awards@cbforum.co.uk The deadline for entries is September 24.
