Environment Agency warns of possible flooding as unsettled weather is forecast

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:33, Thursday December 29th, 2011.

Environment Agency Wales is monitoring river levels closely over the next few days and into the Bank Holiday as unsettled weather has been forecast by the Met Office.

The unsettled weather will bring persistent heavy rain and some strong winds at times, especially to high ground across Wales.

With the ground already heavily saturated, any rainfall could cause rivers to rise and cause flooding of low lying land and some roads leading to disruption for people.

This may lead to some Flood Alerts being issued if rivers reach trigger levels.

The Agency is advising people to listen to local weather and traffic reports and updates on the radio or TV, or if able to, view the latest information on the Met Office website.

Care should also be taken as driving conditions may be hazardous, and people should listen to traffic reports for advice and for any disruption locally.

For the latest Flood Alerts or Warnings in force, and how people can prepare go to www.environment-agency.gov.uk/flood or call Floodline 0845 988 1188.
