Shops, schools and colleges across Caerphilly County Borough will be high on caffeine today as they take part in the Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
The annual event helps raise thousands of pounds to fund cancer services across Wales.

Staff at the Caerphilly branch of the Principality Building Society, at The Twyn, will don their aprons between 10am and 12pm this morning to share a mid-morning cuppa with the local community.

For a small donation to the Charity, staff will provide refreshments for passing shoppers, members and customers in the high street.

Principality Caerphilly Branch Manager, Andrew McGill, said: “The coffee morning is not only a great way for us to help towards improving the lives of people with cancer, it is also a great opportunity for us to catch up with our members, customers and the local community – we want to encourage as many people as possible to pop in and raise a mug to Macmillan.

“Just £26 will help to pay for one hour of a Macmillan professional’s time – helping them to continue to support as many people affected by cancer as possible to have more good days.”

Sue Pickin, Macmillan Fundraising Manager for South East Wales, said: “The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is a really fun event and Principality staff are certainly gearing up to make the most of it.”

Macmillan has around 200 professionals working in hospitals and out in the community across Wales. As well as our well known nurses there are Macmillan occupational therapists, welfare benefits advisers, pharmacists and physiotherapist who all support people affected by cancer.

Catering staff and students at Coleg Gwent’s Crosskeys Campus will be providing visitors with cakes, biscuits and hot drinks for a donation to the charity on the campus’s Morels Restaurant between 10am and 11.30am.

Catering lecturer Caroline Davies has run the event for the past two years.

She said: “Over the last few years we have raised about £350 for the charity. We look forward to welcoming visitors to this years’ coffee morning. Come along and treat yourself, or get together with friends and colleagues over a coffee whilst raising money for Macmillan.”
