Environment Agency Wales warns of heavy rain

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:10, Wednesday January 4th, 2012.

Environment Agency Wales is urging people to remain vigilant for localised flooding across Wales as more heavy rainfall is forecast throughout this afternoon and into the early hours of Thursday morning.

Forecasts indicate that further heavy rainfall will affect the whole of the country by Wednesday evening continuing through to dawn on Thursday morning.

Although the rainfall is not predicted to be as heavy as earlier this week, the ground is already saturated, and further rainfall may cause rivers to rise which may lead to further flood alerts or flood warnings being issued.

Agency officers have been out on the ground checking that flood defences are in good working order. Officers have also been assessing any potential blockages and removing obstructions which may pose a flood risk.

The Agency is advising people to continue to be aware of localised disruption, and to keep an eye on local news, traffic and weather reports in their area.

For the latest on flood alerts and warnings please visit www.environment-agency.gov.uk or call Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
