Three projects in the Caerphilly area are set to benefit from a major funding boost, from the Labour-led Welsh Assembly Government.

Labour AM Jeff Cuthbert has welcomed the news as a shot in the arm to community life and the local economy.

The Community Facilities and Activities Programme (CFAP) funding will provide £121,127 to Rudry Parish Hall and Social Centre to resurface and expand the car park as well as construct multi-purpose rooms with disabled toilet facilities; £112,378 to Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen Band Society to install solar panels, noise reduction panels and a movable partition wall; and £76,303 to Machen Recreation Welfare Association to build an extension to the pavilion to house changing facilities and extension of the car park.

Mr Cuthbert said: “This is great news and I’m delighted that all three projects have been successful in their bids for this funding. It will help all of them to carry on their good work in our communities.

“The funding is also a further shot in the arm for community life and the local economy during these difficult times.

“The three projects are among 23 across Wales to benefit from the latest round of the Welsh Assembly Government’s popular Community Facilities and Activities Programme.

“The programme is not just about buildings. It’s about people, regenerating our towns and villages and restoring a sense of community spirit.”
