New Tesco petrol station planned for Caerphilly Crossways

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 09:24, Thursday January 19th, 2012.

Supermarket giant Tesco is bidding to build a new petrol station next to its Crossways branch on the Gallagher Retail in Caerphilly.

Its planning application will go before Caerphilly County Borough Council’s planning committee on Wednesday and has been approved by planning officers for approval.

If approved, the new petrol station would be built on land near the McDonalds and the Crossways Premier Inn.

A report to be considered by councillors states: “The proposed development represents a form of layout and finishes typical of a modern petrol filling station, and is considered to be acceptable within the context of the immediate surroundings and in relation to the retail estate generally. It is recommended that permission be granted subject to conditions as recommended by consultees relating to lighting, noise control and measures to deal with contamination.”

Fast food outlet McDonalds is also to have its application to open 24 hours a day considered at the same meeting.

The restaurant’s application is set to be approved, but with the condition the drive-thru part only is open between 11pm and 6am.
