Bedwas High School art on display in House of Commons

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:00, Friday January 20th, 2012.

Artwork from pupils at Bedwas High School is being exhibited in a display at the House of Commons.

The exhibition is part of the Send My Sister to School campaign to support girls’ education worldwide. It is estimated that 67 million children in the developing world are missing out on education.

By taking part in the campaign, pupils from Bedwas High have learnt about the importance of education, the lives of children in other countries and how to participate in the ndemocratic process.

A number of them also wrote letters to Caerphilly MP Wayne David as part of the campaign.

Mr David said, “It was very moving and inspiring to receive the ‘sister’ messages and artwork from Bedwas High School.

“Bedwas High has an excellent partnership with a home for vulnerable girls in Kenya and when I visited the school last year I was delighted to meet with Alice, the manager of the home, and Zawadi and Halima, two girls from the home.”
