Extra £1m for road resurfacing works to be considered

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 10:00, Tuesday January 24th, 2012.

Even more roads and footpaths across Caerphilly County Borough could be resurfaced if the council approves plans to spend £1.05m on improvement works.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s cabinet will consider a report on Tuesday January 24 with a recommendation to council to spend £1.05m on new resurfacing schemes.

The report identifies more than 70 sites that would benefit from resurfacing works.

The council has said the severe winters in recent years have taken their toll on the highway network.

The Welsh Government and Caerphilly County Borough Council have already spent an additional £5m to repair roads over the last two years.

Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for transportation said: “This latest investment would bring even more benefits to our communities and further enhance our biggest asset, the highways network, for motorists and pedestrians alike.

“This huge additional investment clearly shows our commitment to ensuring our roads are maintained to the highest possible standard.”

Subject to approval from cabinet and full council, the £1.05m would be funded by a recent Welsh Government grant award and underspent budgets from other projects.
