Management cuts at Caerphilly Council will save £1.2m

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 17:00, Tuesday January 24th, 2012.

A leading Plaid Cymru councillor has said the authority will save more than £1.2 million over the next two years after cutting the number of management roles.

Deputy leader Colin Mann, who is also cabinet member for corporate finance, said that savings in management would total £741,000 in the next financial year with further savings of £500,000, the following year.

Cllr Mann said: “Much of the savings have been achieved by the non-filling of vacancies of management roles across the authority.

“We promised that savings would be targeted on a top down basis with the aim of protecting frontline staff and frontline services and that is what we are doing.

“In tough times for all public bodies, we have looked to make efficiency savings and that is what the people of the county borough would expect. Caerphilly is an extremely well run authority and we continue to look at areas where efficiencies can be made.

“We are also benefiting from substantial ongoing savings due to downsizing the number of offices we occupy.

“Despite the savings that have been made we are leading the way in many areas including the best recycling record in South Wales, our school catering has become one of the first authorities to meet the Welsh Government’s Appetite for Life Standards while we are creating 150 apprenticeship and training places over three More than 100 trainees have already benefited from this scheme since last April.”

Whittles talking his usual nonsense’s , Budget from WAG cut, 1600 staff got rid of, a damming report from SCOPE on services for disabled people in Caerphilly, budgets being cut by millions of pounds, and Whittle says that they can protect front services and not raise Council tax.. Question is what will council tax be in year 2,3 and 4 of a Plaid led council? Its either make more cuts, or huge increases to make up for the zero years. Plaid are offering fools gold.
