Gwent Police Authority praised in inspectorate report

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 09:00, Wednesday October 27th, 2010.

Gwent Police Authority – the body charged with overseeing Gwent Police force – has welcomed a report by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC).

The report, called ‘Police Governance in Austerity’, shows that Gwent Police Authority was one of only four, out of 22 police authorities inspected in England and Wales performing well with regard to strategic direction and ensuring value for money.

Cilla Davies, chairwoman of Gwent Police Authority, said: “I welcome the findings of this inspection and am pleased that the hard work and dedication of the police authority members and staff has been recognised.

“Gwent Police Authority plays an important role in deciding what the priorities should be for the Force and securing value for money. Whilst this work is recognised as being good in Gwent we will continue to strive for improvements and more cost effective ways of doing things.”
