Ice warning in Caerphilly County Borough after snow

The Met Office has issued an ice warning after snow fell in many parts of Caerphilly County Borough on Monday morning.

The heavy snowfall many had feared failed to materialise with only higher ground affected. However, plummeting temperatures mean the snow and rain that did fall will ice over.

A Met Office yellow “be prepared” warning was issued for Monday evening of icy roads, replacing a previous amber warning of snow.

The Met office, on its website, has stated: “Slow clearance of rain, sleet and snow will leave surfaces wet and prone to freezing overnight, increasing the risk of icy patches, especially on untreated surfaces.

“The public are advised to be aware of the need for extra care, especially when travelling.”

Caerphilly County Borough Council has said its gritting teams have been out on the roads since 3.30pm Monday.
