A spate of burglaries in the Blackwood area has led to police issuing a warning to residents to be vigilant.

In the last two weeks, four properties have been targeted in areas in the Highfields and Cefn Fforest areas. Gwent Police said that it appears entry was gained by removing the rear windows of the property.

Items stolen included laptops, cash jewellery and electrical items.

PC Simon James, crime prevention officer for Caerphilly, said: “We would like to remind residents to always double check that they have closed and locked their doors and windows before they leave the house or go to bed.

“In the recent spate of burglaries where access has been gained through the removal of the window we need to remind residents to be vigilant and always report any suspicious activity at any time of the day or night.

“Look out for your neighbours, make sure houses are not unoccupied for a long period of time and keep valuables out of sight from potential thieves looking into your homes. We are currently investigating the recent burglaries and I would encourage the public to report any suspicious behaviour on 101.”
