A management shake-up is set to save £1million of taxpayers’ cash – according to Caerphilly County Borough Council.
The council’s cabinet has agreed a series of changes to management arrangements across the organisation that will help improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Councillor Allan Pritchard, cabinet member for human resources and constitutional affairs, said: “Our medium-term financial plan sets out an ambitious programme of efficiencies over the coming years, but we also need to ensure that any impact on frontline services is kept to a minimum.
“The proposals agreed by cabinet will result in significant annual savings and a more streamlined management structure that will better serve the residents of the area.
“This clearly demonstrates that our carefully planned strategy to steer the council through these troubled times is on track and we will continue to deal with any issues that arise without needing to take the type of drastic measures that we are seeing in some other local authorities.”
Anthony O’Sullivan, the council’s new chief executive, said: “Caerphilly is better placed than most thanks to our robust vacancy management policy and our ongoing strategies to reduce costs while protecting services.
“Although there will inevitably be tough times ahead, I’m confident we can rise to the challenge thanks to our dedicated workforce who continue to provide quality services and value for money to our local residents.”
Recent changes aimed at streamlining top management have seen a director’s post from the council’s top disappear as well as a shake-up of heads of service and other senior posts.
