This year’s Megaday is estimated to have raised £15,000 despite heavy rain affecting the event.
The annual music festival is held each year at Caerphilly Rugby Club’s Virginia Park ground in memory of local musicians Andrew Nichols and Paul Grahame, who both lost their lives to cancer.
The event, during its 15 year history, has raised almost £200,000 for Velindre Hospital.
Newport Rappers Goldie Lookin Chain headlined this year’s Megaday performing their classics and were supported by local bands Dayer, The Hustle, 4th Street traffic and Megaday Battle of the Bands winners, the Stanley Band.
The festival ended in an emotional and explosive finale with a song Paul Grahame recorded especially for Megaday before he died.
The song was accompanied by a fireworks display which complimented every note of the song
Founder of Megaday Steve Sullivan, said: “We did worry about the weather a bit and we thought it could have been a washout.
“But we had 600 people turn out on the Saturday night and 1,000 people on the Sunday. Normally we get up to 2,000 so we were down but to get 1,000 in relentless rain was brilliant.
“We hoped to have raised £15,000 and in spite of the weather we were really pleased with the turn out.
“The rain actually added to the atmosphere and typified what the spirit of Megaday is all about. For more than 1,000 people to turn out just shows the popularity and endless support for Andrew and Paul.”
