The RSPCA is appealing for information after a dead six-month-old kitten was found dumped in Aberbargoed.
The black kitten was found in a black plastic bag by a resident hanging from a tree branch on Ty Graig Terrace on February 3.
It is at present unclear as to how the kitten got there as there was no CCTV in the area or any witnesses. Local inquiries by the animal charity have also turned up no information.
On examination at the RSPCA’s Merthyr Clinic, an x-ray showed a puncture wound to its right side and a broken spine. The vet believes the injuries are consistent with a dog attack and that the kitten died immediately.
RSPCA inspector Nicola Johnson said: “Although we aren’t entirely sure as to what has happened here, the vet’s report seems to indicate that the kitten had been attacked by a dog.
“In cases like this, it is always paramount that owners have full control of their dogs while in private and public places, and training and proper care can go a long way towards this.
“Sadly, we have had no information yet as to whether the kitten belonged to anyone, but in the event of it being dumped or abandoned, this just goes to show the many dangers that face animals who are callously cast out onto the streets.”
