Developers behind a new 82-home housing estate on the site of the old Caerphilly Miners’ Hospital will be holding an exhibition of their plans next month.

Housing association United Welsh and developers Lovell are behind the plan to develop the site. Fundraising efforts by community volunteers to keep the historic Beeches building as a community centre are continuing.

An open information event will take place at the Twyn Community Centre in Caerphilly on Saturday March 3 between 10.30am and 2.30pm.

The event will give people an opportunity to see the plans for the homes as well as find out about fundraising events for the Beeches.

All parties involved with the exciting plans will be at the event to answer queries and questions from the community and be on hand to have a chat about the development. There will also be the opportunity to register interest for the homes.

Gareth Davies head of development at United Welsh said: “The need for quality housing in Caerphilly is growing daily as the economic squeeze takes its toll.

“By delivering The Beeches Village, the partnership is actively tackling the shortage of homes head on.”

The name of the housing development was revealed in June 2011 as The Beeches Village, or Pentref y Ffawydd and was chosen as part of a competition won by Hendredenny resident Julie Grant.

In view of his work in making the site available by closing the Miners for his Ystrad Mynach white elephant, perhaps we could name the estate after Jeff Cuthbert?.
