A Blackwood man has been prosecuted for selling fruit, veg and flowers without the correct council licence.
Michael Kakia, of Gordon Close, Blackwood, was taken to court by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Trading Standards for selling the items from his van. Offences were committed in Cross Keys in May 2011 and Nelson in July 2011.
Kakia appeared at Caerphilly Magistrates Court on Thursday 16 February. He pleaded guilty to the offence under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982, and was fined £150, ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection said: “I hope this successful prosecution will act as a deterrent to those attempting to trade unfairly and without having the necessary licence in place.”
Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Street Trading Policy was introduced in January 2011 to regulate street trading activity.
Cllr Gough added: “Our Trading Standards team continue to work tirelessly to ensure that traders in breach of our Street Trading Policy will continue to be pursued.”
