Metal thieves have stolen four bronze plaques from the entrance pillars at Bargoed Park.
Three were stolen on Monday February 13 and a fourth between 10am on Wednesday February 15 and 1pm on Thursday February 16.
Police have said two of the plaques are particularly distinctive. One shows an image of Morgan Jones MP along with information about him and his ties to the area, and another contains information relating to the handing over of the land by the Marquis of Bute.
The plaques were taken from the West street and Mooreland Road entrances.
Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection, engineering and transport condemned the thefts.
He said: “Stealing from our public places affects the whole community, funds will need to be spent to replace these plaques that could have been used to provide extra park facilities for all to enjoy. As a community we must all be vigilant against metal theft and report anything suspicious, we will do all we can to catch those responsible.”
Dog fouling bins and a playground slide have been stolen in recent years with a rise in the number of metal thefts.
Caerphilly County Borough Council, working with Gwent Police, has said it is continuing to take action to prevent metal theft using CCTV and SmartWater – a liquid which leaves a unique invisible marker on criminals.
Cllr Gough added: “Using these technologies we are able to send out a clear message to thieves that they are running a very high risk of being caught and convicted for their crimes. We want to see a clear reduction in this type of crime in our county borough and are taking sizeable steps to ensure that this is the case”.
