Pupils from Ty Isaf Primary School have been doing their bit for the environment

Pupils from Ty Isaf Primary School have been doing their bit for the environment by helping to clear a well-used footpath near their school grounds in Risca.

The pupils worked hard to remove litter from the area alongside the council’s Tidy Towns team.

Cllr Lyn Ackerman, cabinet member for public services, said: “I would like to thank the pupils of Ty Isaf School for again showing pride in their area and helping to make it an even cleaner, greener place to live.”

Last autumn the school children planted hundreds of flowers that will bloom this spring to make their community more appealing and encourage others to be proud of their area.

Headteacher Alexis Edwards said, “I am so proud of our pupils. Their enthusiasm and effort was really humbling. They got involved during difficult conditions and I hope this is an example for the rest of the community to follow.”

The area had received funding from the Welsh Government’s Tidy Towns initiative to improve the quality and appearance of the area. The initiative aims to improve the quality of the local environment through community action, contributing towards a clean, safe and tidy Wales.
