Rivers of Light celebrations across Caerphilly County Borough

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:00, Thursday November 25th, 2010.

People of all ages are set to take part in this year's River of Light Parades

Festive lantern parades will be happening across Caerphilly County Borough next month.

From Blackwood to Rhymney, Bargoed to Caerphilly, spectacular lanterns will be paraded through the streets, as families, community groups and organisations turn out in force to take part in these fun and entertaining festive events.

Council leader Lindsay Whittle said: “These fantastic festive parades provide a fun activity for the whole family in the run up to Christmas. I would encourage as many people as possible to come along and get involved, and help turn our magnificent town centres into ‘Rivers of Light’ this Christmas.”

Caerphilly’s free lantern-making workshops for children of all ages will be taking place on December 4 and 5, December 11 and 12 and December 18 and 19 this year at Caerphilly Leisure Centre.

Caerphilly’s River Of Light Lantern Parade will be the finale to this year’s calendar of processions.

On December 23, the town centre will light up as hundreds of proud lantern makers display their masterpieces. Accompanied by samba, dance and entertainers, it really is a magnificent way to end the annual events programme for Caerphilly County Borough Council.

The procession leaves Caerphilly Railway Station Park and Ride at 6.30pm and is followed by an explosive fireworks display.
