Manics’ Radio 2 gig at Blackwood Miners’ Institute postponed

The Manic Street Preachers have cancelled their homecoming gig at Blackwood Miners’ Institute this week after singer James Dean Bradfield went down with laryngitis.

Thursday’s concert would have been the first time the band has played Blackwood for 25 years. The 180 pairs of tickets for the gig were available through a BBC Radio 2 promotion.

Distribution of the tickets were geographically weighted with 75% going to people in Blackwood, Newport and Cardiff, and 25% for the rest of the UK.

In a statement on their website the band said: “As our fans know, we absolutely hate cancelling shows, and we are devastated that we have had to do this – we can only say sorry and hope we can make it up to people when James is well again.”

The frontman was audibly unwell when he announced the news on Simon Mayo’s radio show earlier this evening.

The show has now been rearranged for January 27. For more information visit www.manics.co.uk
