Caerphilly County Borough Council has issued the following update to its services via its website. For the latest news visit www.caerphilly.gov.uk
“Continued freezing temperatures overnight have meant conditions within Caerphilly County Borough Council remain difficult.
“Staff are working hard to respond to the situation, endeavouring to deliver all services as normal where possible whilst negotiating the icy road conditions. The current conditions have seen an increase in call volumes through our main switchboard, to the highways department and public services team. Please be patient and we will answer your call as soon as possible. For any non-urgent requests please use our website to request a service or report an issue.”
Refuse and recycling
“Refuse and Recycling vehicles have been deployed and will collect as normal where it is safe to do so. We are aware that the conditions this week have meant that a lot of properties were missed and we are doing our utmost to return as soon as possible. We will do our best to collect from these properties (weather permitting) throughout the rest of the week.
“However, there is a potential for further snow and continued freezing conditions throughout this week and the position will therefore be reviewed daily. Our Foremen are out within the borough assessing the road safety of the missed areas and are deploying vehicles to those areas that are now accessible.
“Some of the streets that were missed have now been gritted and we have additional vehicles out to assist us in catching up.
“Please leave your bins at their normal collection point and we thank you for your patience.
“All of our Civic Amenity sites continue to be open for business as usual 9am until 4:30pm.”
Highways
“The Highways Department are currently out gritting all of our main priority salting routes and responding to emergency situations.
“Accesses to all schools, OAP complexes, medical centres and town centre footways will continue to be targeted, along with medical emergencies.
“We will also continue to re-fill salt bins and where possible grit side roads, minor roads and estates roads.
“All service requests dealt with during this period will be prioritised dependant on risk.
“There are no known road closures at this time.”
Social services
“Adult Social Services will continue to provide normal services to those who receive social care services for as long as conditions allow. If conditions disrupt services, contact will be made with those people affected. Contact our Adult Services Duty Information team on 0808 1002500 for further advice.
“Children’s Social Services will provide normal services for as long as conditions allow, if conditions disrupt services please contact the Contact and Referral Team 0808 1001727 for further advice.
“Social services provide an emergency service outside of normal office hours. The emergency team can be contacted on 0800 3284432. Their operating hours are 17:00 until 08:30 Monday Through to Thursday, and Friday 16:30 through to 08:30 Monday morning. This service deals only with emergency situations that cannot wait until the next working day.”
Meals on wheels
“Caerphilly Meals on Wheels service will make every effort to deliver your meal. However, weather emergencies and accidents can sometimes prevent us from doing this. Meals on wheels are not delivered on days when extreme weather causes unsafe road conditions for our drivers. As a guide, if your local school is closed then meals may not be delivered in your area.
“In preparation for winter weather, meals on wheels clients are given the opportunity during December to purchase two frozen emergency meals. These meals can be kept for up to 3 months in the freezer and used when we are unable to deliver as normal. Please ask your meals on wheels driver for further information.
Day Centres
“Following risk assessments this morning, transport will not be provided for day centres due to the condition of side streets, driveways and pavements.
“Centres will be open should individuals wish to make their own arrangements to get to and from the centres.”
