Islwyn MP Chris Evans has invited pupils at the Specialist Resource Base for children with autism at Risca Community Comprehensive School to the House of Commons in February.

Mr Evans made the invitation after being impressed with the efforts made by the pupils in building a Celtic roundhouse at Ynys Hywel learning centre for their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

After presenting certificates at a special award ceremony at the school, Mr Evans handed a cheque for £50 to Karen Hodges, the school’s Duke of Edinburgh Award coordinator, in recognition and support of the incredible work done by the school to improve the opportunities available locally to children with autism.

He said: “The work being done to support children in the community is hugely inspiring and I always love coming to see how pupils are getting on. The warmth shown by both pupils and staff never fails to impress me and I look forward to welcoming you to Westminster in the New Year.”

Hugely disappointed at the councils decision to close and sell their outdoor education centre at Ynys Hywel. What a waste of a superb facility.
