A former stables set in the grounds of an old rectory is to open as a nursery in the New Year after help from Caerphilly Council.
Bunny Meadow Day Nursery is based in Gelligaer, and owner Kay Aubrey has given up her full-time job as a family lawyer to fulfil her dream of running a nursery for under-fives.
Kay received a Caerphilly Business Development Grant from Caerphilly County Borough Council, which helped her buy some of the equipment for the nursery.
She said: “It has taken us two years to get to this stage and we have had many hurdles to cross on the way. We are nervously awaiting the final Care Standards Inspectorate of Wales report, which went very well on December 6. We currently await registration in early January, and we will then be ready for business.
“We believe in giving the children a good foundation before they start school, and will operate an early learning centre where children will have the opportunity for indoor and outdoor activities in the safety of our grounds.”
Cllr Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration and planning said: “I am delighted that we were able to help this business to start-up. Creating new jobs in the county borough remains a priority, and I would encourage more budding entrepreneurs to get in touch with our Economic Development team to find out more about what support is available.”
Kay added: “We are very grateful to the Economic Development team for all their support during the business set-up process.”
Bunny Meadow Day Nursery has already employed Charlene Farmer as its full-time manager and will initially employ eight staff.
