Two arrested in connection with Crumlin armed robbery

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 09:00, Wednesday March 14th, 2012.

Two people have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery in which a “significant amount” of money was stolen.

The armed robbery took place at GLJ Recycling, Pen-Y-Fan Industrial Estate, Crumlin on Monday March 12.

At approximately 8.45am, two men holding what looked like shot guns arrived at the premises in a vehicle and demanded money from employees.

The first man is described as approximately 5ft 10in tall wearing a green three quarter length jacket.

The second man is described as 5ft 8in tall, of stocky build wearing a dirty high visibility jacket.

Both men were wearing black balaclavas.

Police said they stole a significant amount of cash and made off out of the Industrial Estate in a Grey Vauxhall Astra.

No-one was injured in the incident.

A 44-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman, both from the Caerphilly area, have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit armed robbery. They are currently in custody.

The vehicle believed to have been used in the incident has been recovered.

If anyone has any information about the incident they are asked to call Gwent Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
