Residents had a day of glorious sunshine helping them when they cleared an overgrown community garden.
Members of the Princetown community, Rhymney, met at the beginning of the month to clear the small community garden that had become extremely overgrown.
Residents were invited to attend for just two hours to help clear the garden and to meet their neighbours who had been looking after the community garden since it was established in 2000.
The residents who have been maintaining the garden have been asking for support from various places for many years.
Mrs Williams (pictured, fourth from left), who also volunteers with the local charity Helping Hands, contacted Rhymney Partnership and Groundwork Caerphilly, who arranged the session.
Every door in the village was knocked to raise awareness of the day. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that the community will be able to maintain the garden themselves in future. They now hope that Caerphilly County Borough Council will provide help.
Carl Cuss, Secretary of Rhymney Communities First Partnership, said “The partnership was informed by local residents in Princetown about the condition of the community garden and asked if any support was available.
“Groundwork Caerphilly were contacted and their officer Rhiannon Perkins encouraged local residents to work together to clean the garden, this opportunity provided a real insight into the spirit of the community.
“The partnership will now contact Caerphilly County Borough Council to see if this area can be added to their maintenance regime.”
