Run the Cardiff Half Marathon and raise cash for Diabetes UK Cymru

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 16:30, Thursday January 6th, 2011.

Diabetes UK Cymru is appealing for people across Caerphilly County Borough to stick to their New Year’s fitness resolutions by taking on the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise cash.

The charity wants people aiming to get fit in 2011 by signing up to run the Cardiff Half Marathon in aid of it.

Runners can already register for the race now, which will be held on Sunday October 16.

Last year more than 50 runners took on the half marathon for the charity, raising much-needed funds to support people with diabetes in Wales.

By signing up now, runners have plenty of time to train for the 13.1 mile challenge, which takes runners through some of the capital’s best scenery.

Money raised by the runners will fund research into the condition and enable the charity to support people with diabetes and their families.

Dai Williams, National Director of Diabetes UK Cymru, said: “Signing up to run the Cardiff Half Marathon now is the perfect way to stick to your New Year’s resolution to get fit and raise money for Diabetes UK Cymru.

“More than 153,000 people – almost one in 20 – are now diagnosed with diabetes in Wales and that number is rising rapidly every year.

“Money raised by our Cardiff Half Marathon runners will fund vital research into the condition and help us provide advice, support and information for people with diabetes in Wales.

“Best of all training for the half marathon is also a great way of keeping active and managing the condition if you already have it or reducing your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes if you don’t.”

To sign up for the Cardiff Half Marathon, or for information on other ways of raising funds for the charity, call Diabetes UK Cymru on 029 2066 8276 or email wales@diabetes.org.uk
