Caerphilly County Borough Council is urging residents to be vigilant about a new council tax scam.
The council has recently received a call from a resident who had been contacted by a person claiming to be from the “Government Council Federation”. The caller advised the resident that she was due a substantial loyalty payment for paying her council tax on time.
The caller then asked for the resident’s bank details.
Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection said: “I would urge everyone to remain vigilant and to never disclose bank details if they have any suspicions.
“If residents are in any doubt, I would encourage them to contact our Trading Standards team on 01495 235 291 for information and advice.”
