Champion dancer opens studio in Caerphilly

A former British Champion dancer from Caerphilly is hoping to have all the right moves when she opens a new dance studio in the town.

Lisa Darby, 30, is pursuing her dream of owning her own studio to teach others to follow in her footsteps.

The Elite Dance Studio will officially open its doors on Saturday March 31 at 6.30pm with a lavish opening worthy of the glitz and glamour of the dancing world.

Lisa, who moved to London when she was 17 to train at some of the top dance studios in the UK, explained: “At 21 I started dancing with a partner from Slovenia and I moved to the country and lived there for eight years.

“We got to the point where we were number one in the UK. We went to the Euro and World Championships representing the UK and we won the the British Championship three times. We managed to be 11th in the world.

“I moved back home about two years ago to open my own business – which I did – and I’ve been running classes at the Van Community Centre. I was at the community centre six days a week and I decided that if I was going to take the plunge I had to have my own premises.

“With a studio we can do a lot more. We’ve got all sorts of classes – children’s, mother and toddler groups, street dancing, Zumba, Salsa, Latin.”

The dance studio boasts two separate studio rooms as well as a dedicated physio room, café and reception room and will be available to hire for special events.
