Online vote for top tourist attractions in Caerphilly County Borough

People are being urged to vote in an online poll to ensure Caerphilly County Borough’s tourist attractions appear in a top 50 Welsh list.

Last month The Valleys Heart and Soul campaign teamed up with Rough Guide author Mike Parker to create a list of the Top 50 Valleys Essentials.

People are being urged to vote for their favourite from Parker’s 50 unranked list to determine the ultimate Top ten Valleys Essentials or if their favourite is missing to nominate it. The final list will be revealed in March 2011.

Ruperra Castle is one attraction looking for people’s vots.

Elaine Davey, Trustee for Ruperra Castle, said: “It’s great recognition for Ruperra Castle to be included in the Top 50 Valleys Essentials, as it will help to improve its profile and people’s appreciation of the site.

“If the castle was to make the top ten list, it would certainly benefit our appeal to save the site. We’re delighted with the support that we’ve received so far, and we’ll be continuing to campaign over the next fortnight to increase public awareness of such an important and historic site in The Valleys, and Wales.”

The Valleys Heart and Soul is a three year campaign led by partnership organisations from the Western Valleys, Heads of the Valleys and The Valleys Partnership, and aims to change perceptions of The Valleys and bring long-term economic benefits to the area.

Voting is taking place online at www.thevalleys.co.uk where the full list of Valleys Essentials can be viewed. Voting closes on February 1.
