Police are appealing for information about a man found with serious head injuries at the side of the road two years ago.
They hope the anniversary appeal will jog people’s memories so they can piece together what happened to Alex Chant.
The 22-year-old was found injured near CarCraft, Southern Distributor Road (SDR), Newport, at about 11.30pm on March 27, 2010.
A Gwent Police spokesman said: “It was the first weekend of the Easter holidays and the first Saturday after the schools broke up.”
Mr Chant, from Lliswerry, had been out socialising in the Maindee area of Newport earlier that day.
He left Maindee Squareat about 11.15pm in a dark-coloured people carrier with a sliding door.
He was seen getting out of the vehicle on the SDR, which then continued toStephenson Street.
Detective Chief Superintendent Geoff Ronayne, who continues to lead the investigation, said Gwent Police had received information that the vehicle Mr Chant fell from had a small rugby ball hanging from the rear-view mirror.
He said: “We are asking people to think back to see whether they can remember a vehicle of a similar description operating at that time.
“We are keeping an open mind and have a number of scenarios – whether Alex was pushed, fell, or accidentally exited the vehicle.
“What we do know is that the vehicle didn’t stop and basically left him for dead at the side of the road.
“We need to identify the driver to find out what happened and why they didn’t stop and render first-aid or even contact the emergency services.”
Mr Chant is 6ft 1in, medium to stocky build, with short, dark brown hair.
Both his arms are heavily tattooed. His right arm has tattoos of hearts, tribal patterns and a skull with chequered flags and a red spiders web coming out of it and his left arm has tattoos of Japanese flowers and a koi carp fish.
On the night of the incident he was wearing a blue and white striped t-shirt and blue jeans.
Anyone who saw Alex inMaindee Squaregetting into the vehicle, or can offer information to identify the vehicle or driver travelling down the SDR, is asked to call Gwent Police on 101.
