A student has blown her rivals out of the water at a prestigious hairdressing competition.

First year hairdressing student Alex Williams took the silver medal for commercial blow-dry in the UK final of the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) competition.

Alex was among a number of Coleg Gwent hair and beauty students who were successful in the Welsh semi-finals to win places in the UK final in Blackpool.

Hairdressing categories included Ladies Evening Style, Men’s Commercial Cut and Finish and Ladies Long Hair.  Beauty students competed in nail art, face and body painting and 1940s makeup categories.

“Alex did extremely well against nine other UK regions,” said Crosskeys Campus Hair & Beauty Lecturer Rachel Meehan.

“She did a great job representing Welsh talent in the competition, and can be very proud of her achievement.”
