Caerphilly on alert for credit scam

Police are advising people in the Caerphilly area to be vigilant after reports of a suspected credit scam.

A spokesman for the Gwent force said a number of people had received unexpected parcels containing expensive items such as computers, smartphones and cameras.

A short time later someone calls at the property to collect the items and claim the parcel has been sent to them in error.

It is believed that criminals are using addresses of innocent parties to obtain goods on credit and collect what effectively are stolen items.

Officers have received six reports of this nature in the last three months.

All of these incidents are under investigation and so far one man, a 26-year-old man from London, has been arrested on suspicion of committing fraud by misrepresentation. He is currently on police bail pending further enquiries.

Officers advise residents to be vigilant when taking receipt of goods delivered to their homes.

Anyone who receives a parcel that they are not expecting should consider contacting Gwent Police on 101 or calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
