Food festival adds flavour to Caerphilly

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:22, Wednesday April 11th, 2012.

Caerphilly town centre will host its first Food Festival on May 26.

The town centre will be closed to traffic for the day as a food market lines the streets with a variety of stalls.

Foodies are set to be in their element as cookery demonstrations accompany the festival, offering information on how produce is made and how to improve your own culinary skills.

The Visit Caerphilly Centre will be host to the feature cookery programme, packed with chefs and producers presenting their creative cuisine.

There will also be opportunity for audience participation with German cake creation, cheese and butter making and cake decorating.

The food festival coincides with the Olympic Torch coming to Caerphilly.

The torch will begin its journey at the top of Watford Road at approximately 9.42am and will travel along St Martin’s Road, along Cardiff Road through Caerphilly town centre, turn left at the traffic lights near the Piccadilly, and onto Nantgarw Road where it will complete its journey near the crossroads onto St Cenydd Road.

Will the torch be weaving between the stalls on Cardiff Rd?

Lets hope the crowds get out not only to witness the torch but to enjoy the whole weekend of festivities. Flower festival starts on Friday through to Sunday, Food market all day Saturday and the added attraction of the Olympic torch.

I'm sure the local shops can do with the boost in trade that's a feature of the Christmas market and should become an annual feature of the Caerffili events programme which has increased significantly since Plaid have been in control of Caerffili Borough.

Cllr Fussel is mistaken if he thinks events like this boost triad in the town center shops in fact from my own discussions with owners of said stores they are likely to loss during events like this as a lot of they're normal triad ether avoids the crowd or is detracted by something that is a change form what is normally there.

i mean do you really expect glandmors, gregs, or the refresh cafe to make more money with more competition right out side its door?

dont get me wrong i like the fact that there is an event like this. and i will be there my self but dont think of it as some grate boon to the business's already there
