Villagers concerned over the disappearance of a popular pensioner are to hold a candlelit vigil for him on Sunday.

Seventy-seven year old Trevor Elias was reported missing from his home in Abertridwr on Saturday April 7.

Police have been searching in and around the village throughout the week for Mr Elias, who is known for his sense of humour and love of horse racing.

He is described as being approximately 6ft tall, very thin build, and has brown short hair. He wears glasses.

Hundreds are expected to attend the candlelit vigil on Sunday April 15 at Abertridwr Square from 8pm.

For more information about the tribute, a Facebook event has been set up.

The search for the pensioner continued yesterday with members of the Brecon Mountain Rescue team searching the surrounding mountains.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: “Each missing person reported to Gwent Police is risk assessed on the individual circumstances and the investigation is overseen and reviewed on a daily basis by senior detectives. Resources are prioritised to ensure that all available leads are investigated.

“In this particular case specially trained search officers have conducted extensive area searches on a daily basis assisted by the Air Support Unit and Dog Section.

“Officers have been working closely with the community to gain any information which could assist in the location of Mr Elias. Actions have and continue to be carried out and reviewed daily.

“Anyone who sees Mr Elias or has information about his whereabouts is asked to contact Gwent Police on 101.”
