Peter’s Chief Pieologist David Jackson has had his tongue insured for £1m

A taster at Bedwas-based Peter’s Pies has had his expert taste buds insured for £1 million.

Peter’s Chief Pieologist David Jackson is responsible for developing new products and flavours in the firm’s top-secret kitchens.

A trained chef and qualified food scientist, Mr Jackson spends months looking into food trends, consumer tastes for the company.

The 40-year-old from Rogerstone said: “I’m professionally-trained like a wine taster, to take just a bit. But, if it’s really nice, I’ll sometimes eat it all. There are not many reasons to buy lunch in this job.”

This spring will see three new Peter’s products appear on shelves – all cooked up by Jackson and his team of experts.

His painstaking research has culminated in three unique new Peter’s products hitting supermarket shelves this month – The Firecracker Cheese Slice, a X Large Spicy Pork Roll and a Chicken and Bacon Slice.

Mike Grimwood, managing director of Peter’s Foods, said: “David’s expertise and finely-tuned tastebuds help us to create exciting new products without compromising the traditional and classic flavours that Peter’s customers love.”
