New MD for Caerphilly manufacturer following strong growth

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:00, Thursday May 3rd, 2012.

A Caerphilly manufacturer of specialist medical mattresses has appointed a new managing director following strong growth.

Direct Healthcare Services, based on the town’s Western Industrial Estate, makes mattresses which helps prevent patients at high risk from developing pressure sores.

Graham Ewart has been appointed as the new managing director while chief executive Jon Lewis will become the company’s Chairman from August.

Mr Lewis said: “We are delighted Graham is joining our team and his appointment to the new role of managing director demonstrates our ambition and commitment to the future of Direct Healthcare Services.

“Stepping up to the role of Chairman will enable me to focus more on the strategic direction of the company and its research and development programme to ensure we continue to deliver the best, most innovative products in the market.”

Graham Ewart joins Direct Healthcare Services after five years with healthcare multinational Stryker’s MedSurg Division where he was general manager for the UK and Ireland, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The company has announced it is strengthening its management structure following sustained growth since its formation in 2009. This year it will comfortably exceed its turnover and profit target, showing growth in excess of 40% on the previous year and having more than doubled its workforce. Its customer base has expanded by approximately 50%.

Mr Ewart said: “It’s an exciting prospect to be joining a company that is experiencing sustainable growth by staying focused on its customers and delivering the products and services that meet their needs. I’m really looking forward to working with Jon, Neil, Mike and the team at Direct Healthcare to continue to deliver quality, service, innovation and best value to our customers.”
