Blue Peter Big Olympic Tour coming to Caerphilly

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 10:00, Friday May 11th, 2012.

BBC TV children’s programme Blue Peter has announced that it be broadcasting live from Caerphilly town for the Olympic Torch relay on Saturday May 26.

Following the live Saturday morning programme, presenters Helen and Barney will host a fun-packed event open to everyone. The Blue Peter Village will offer children the chance to try out a range of Olympic sports, investigate the science of sport, go back in time to discover the history of the Olympic Games, have a go at being a sports commentator, and lots more.

The event will be at the Owain Glyndwr Playing Fields, Crescent Road from 10am to 4pm, and is free to attend – no tickets are required.

There is also an opportunity to be part of the audience for the live TV show.

To apply for tickets visit the Blue Peter website or call 0370 901 1227.

Also happening on the weekend of May 26 is Caerphilly’s first food festival.

Anthony O’ Sullivan, council chief executive, said: “The Taste of Caerphilly Weekend will be an incredibly exciting event. The news that Blue Peter will be joining us is like winning the gold medal. Residents of the borough can feel proud that our moment to shine will be showcased to the nation.”
