Police promise a “zero tolerance” approach to illegal parking in Blackwood

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 09:00, Monday May 14th, 2012.

Gwent Police has promised a zero tolerance crackdown from today on illegal parking in Blackwood.

The action, it has said, is in response to increasing complaints from traders about motorists parking on double-yellow lines and in loading bays along the town’s High Street.

Officers from the Blackwood Neighbourhood Team will be taking a “zero tolerance” approach towards motorists illegally parked in Blackwood. Fines of £30 or £60 with three licence points will be issued to motorists flouting the parking laws.

Leaflets are being distributed to local shops and residents explaining the offences and the penalties they incur.

Sergeant Neil Jones, of Gwent’s Blackwood team, said: “Parking on double yellow lines is illegal and causes an obstruction and an unnecessary risk to other motorists and pedestrians.

“There is adequate car parking provision in the town centre which motorists should be using when leaving their vehicles. We want to remind motorists we are now taking a zero tolerance approach to this issue and over the next couple of weeks, we will be educating drivers about where it is illegal to park, and issuing Fixed Penalty Notices to motorists to reinforce the message.”

About time, especially at the Argos end. I've seen disabled people on mobility scooters unable to access the pavement due to people (despite the police notice in Argos window) blocking the dropped kerb.
