New Caerphilly Café to help volunteers back into work

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:00, Friday May 18th, 2012.

A new social enterprise café has opened in Caerphilly town helping adults with past drug problems to get back into work.

Tyfu Café, (a Welsh translation of growing), has been set up by charity Drugaid Cymru.

The café is intended to help people who have experienced substance misuse in the past get back into paid employment through volunteering.

Situated opposite Caerphilly Train Station, Tyfu Café offers volunteers six month work placements.

There are currently seven volunteers working at the café but co-ordinators are hoping to double that through 2012 with volunteers who successfully complete work placements receiving a job reference and any further support they need to find paid work.

Bridget Lafferty, co-ordinator for Tyfu Café said: “This is a great opportunity for people to develop skills and experience and increase their self confidence within a commercial catering environment.

“Our aim is to enable people to feel fully supported so they can move forwards into paid employment and hopefully onto bigger and better things.”

For more information about volunteer placements at Tyfu Café please contact Drugaid on 02920 868675.

I popped in en route to feeding the ducks with my little boy. We were met with a warm and friendly welcome. It is very child friendly and we were offered some books to read and toys to play with while we were there. a convivial and pleasant atmosphere, I thoroughly recommend it and wish them well.
