Twmbarlwm should be preserved for future generations, says Islwyn MP

The historic monument of Twmbarlwm is under threat, say conservationists

Twmbarlwm should be preserved for future generations, according to Islwyn MP Chris Evans.

Mr Evans has recently been named president of the Cymdeithas Twmbarlwm Society – which helps to preserve and maintain the historic Twmbarlwm Mountain in Risca.

The top of the mountain features a Bronze Age burial mound, an Iron Age hill fort and a motte dating back to the medieval period. As well as being a well known local landmark, visible on the skyline for many miles, Twmbarlwm is also seen as a symbol of Monmouthshire and Gwent.

Mr Evans said: “I am delighted to have been named President of Cymdeithas Twmbarlwm Society.

“We are extremely fortunate that societies like Cymdeithas Twmbarlwm are working so hard to protect the mountain for future generations to enjoy and I look forward to joining them in helping to preserve one of Islwyn’s iconic sites.”
